Before you pack your bags
The Area
Puycelsi, which overlooks Château de Pont Bourguet in the valley below, is a picturesque medieval village located in the Tarn department in the Occitanie region of southern France. It’s classified as one of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France (The Most Beautiful Villages of France) and is known for its well-preserved ramparts, cobbled streets, and panoramic views over the surrounding countryside. Puycelsi is not just visually stunning but also offers a tranquil atmosphere, artisan shops, and a few local cafés and restaurants. It’s popular for walkers, history lovers, and those exploring the Pays de Cocagne and Albigensian countryside.
This is the heart of the Gaillac AOC wine region, one of the oldest in France. Whites, reds, and sparkling varieties are made using ancient local grape types like Duras, Braucol, and Loin de l’Œil. The local food is typically duck confit, cassoulet, truffle-based dishes, and cheese from the Monts de Lacaune.
Travel Options to the Region
Option 1: Fly into Paris & Take the High-Speed Train (Highly Recommended & Cost-Effective)
For guests traveling from Canada, flying into Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and continuing by train is often the most cost-effective and convenient route.
The Flight: You can fly directly into Paris (CDG) from major Canadian hubs, including year-round direct flights from Calgary via WestJet.
The Train Journey: From Paris, you can catch the high-speed TGV train directly to Montauban (the closest major station) or Toulouse. The journey takes roughly 4 to 4.5 hours, featuring comfortable seating, Wi-Fi, and beautiful views.
How to Book: Tickets can be booked directly through the SNCF Connect website or app. Booking typically opens 3 to 4 months in advance, and we highly recommend purchasing your tickets early to secure the best rates and first-class seating options.
Getting to Puycelsi: Once you arrive at the train station in Montauban or Toulouse, you can pick up a rental car directly at the station for the final leg of the drive to the region. Make sure to double check rental car availability as part of your travel booking process
Option 2: The Full Air Flight (Fly into Toulouse)
If you prefer a pure flight itinerary to get as close to the wedding as possible, you will want to fly into Toulouse-Blagnac Airport (TLS). It is about a 1-hour drive from Puycelsi.
Direct from Montreal (YUL): For a non-stop transatlantic route straight to Toulouse, you can fly direct from Montreal. Air Canada operates this route year-round, and Air Transat offers direct flights (typically starting in April).
Connecting Through Paris or London: You can book a single, coordinated itinerary from your origin through a major European hub like Paris (CDG) or London (LHR) directly into Toulouse. Alternatively, some travelers book a separate, low-cost flight (via EasyJet or Ryanair) for the final leg to Toulouse.
Important Connection Tip: If booking separate tickets, give yourself a 5+ hour buffer to clear customs, collect your bags, and re-check them. Alternatively, stay one night in London or Paris before catching your flight to Toulouse the next morning!
Luggage Note: Low-cost carriers are incredibly strict about sizes; pre-purchase your bag allowance online to avoid hefty gate fees.

Know before you go!
Is my passport valid?
1
Please ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates. Visa requirements depend on your citizenship, we recommend checking entry requirements early.
Where should we travel before or after?
2
Toulouse is an international airport, which makes it very convenient to fly to most places directly in Europe. If you want to stay close by, we recommend heading to Biarritz, Bordeaux, Nice, or St. Tropez.
What should I pack?
3
As Miranda always says - leave some room in your suitcase for shopping :) Other than your outfits for the wedding events, we recommend packing: a light jacket for chillier evenings, sunglasses, swimsuits, comfortable walking shoes, and a travel converter for the European plugs. Ladies - please note your hair tools may not work with a travel converter or may not work the same!
Should I bring euros?
4
While credit card is widely accepted throughout France, we recommend bringing some cash for the smaller towns.
When should I arrive?
5
We would recommend arriving in Toulouse a day or two before to explore the city! Our Welcome party starts at 5pm on June 3rd, so if you arrive in Toulouse that morning, you will also have plenty of time.
What will the weather be like?
6
The average weather at the beginning of June is consistently warm, with average daily highs often rising above 20°C. We recommend packing a light jacket for chillier evenings.
